Additional drug charges have been filed against a convicted sex offender previously indicted on multiple child sex offenses.

Included in an amended grand jury indictment, three felony and one misdemeanor drug charges have been filed against Andrew Allmon, 55, of North State St. The new charges allege that Allmon possessed prescription pain pills and vials of morphine with intent to distribute.

Chief District Court Judge Doug Walker read a 13-count indictment against Allmon during a half-hour arraignment hearing on Monday, Sept. 29. Public defender Kenneth Pace entered a not-guilty plea to all charges on his client’s behalf. A jury trial is set to start Jan. 5.

In counts 10 through 13, the drug charges allege that Allmon drugged the father of the minor child connected to the sex offenses at least twice by placing Oxytocin in his glass of tea. Two other children told authorities that Allmon reportedly said he knew how to make people go to sleep.

Court records reveal that Allmon allegedly committed the child sexual assault offenses within six weeks of inviting the family, who had fallen on tough economic times, to move into his Cortez home. A convicted sex offender, Allmon allegedly abused the youngest of three daughters, an 8-year-old, multiple times in June 2013.

The alleged victim reportedly told authorities during a forensics interview that Allmon not only touched her, but he also forced her to touch him. The mother testified at a grand jury hearing that Allmon was like a grandfather to the children.

Counts 1 through 9 are child sex-assault charges, some of which are stipulated as crimes of violence. If convicted, Allmon could be sentenced to life behind bars, said Walker.

Allmon was convicted in 2008 on charges of false imprisonment and sexual assault of a minor in San Juan County N.M.
