Short-film festival opens Friday in Dolores

14 films, pie auction, door prizes and beer are planned

If you love the outdoors or just need a little inspiration to get out there, then the fourth Annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival, a fundraiser for the Montezuma County Land Conservancy, might be just the place for you.

The event takes place this Friday at the Dolores Community Center and will feature a lineup of short, inspirational films.

"It is a really good lineup. We have a lot of fun films and a lot of inspirational ones," said Molly Fales, conservation director with the Montezuma County Land Conservancy.

Fourteen 14 films will be played Friday, totaling about two hours worth of movies.

"There is a mix of outdoor and conservation films and two ski movies," Fales said. "Most of the movies are four or five minutes long."

There will be a 30-minute intermission during the movies to give away door prizes.

"They are quick, fun movies," Fales said.

Some of the movies include: "Joy of Air," a movie that showcases people hitting ski and bike jumps; "Into the Mind," a ski movie; "Tahoe Time 1.5," a movie showcasing pretty scenery from Tahoe; a fishing movie about catching steelhead on the northwest; and a film about a man from Buena Vista talking about survival skills.

Also at the event will be a pie auction.

"The pies are always really popular," Fales said.

This is the fourth year the Montezuma County Land Conservancy has hosted the Wild and Scenic Film Festival.

"It is a very family-friendly, kid-friendly event," Fales said.

Money goes to support Land Conservancy, an organization that preserves open space and agricultural land in the area.

Those older than 21 years old can enjoy free beer courtesy of Dolores River Brewery with the cost of entry.

Dinner food will be for sale, and other refreshments will be available and sold by the Dolores Secondary Parent Teacher Organization.

The PTO will be serving crock pot meals, bread and coffee. The cost for dinner is $5 for all you can eat soup/stew and bread, and $1 for a cup of coffee.

Baked goods will be available for a donation.
