April at the Fort is filled with a flurry of activities as we say good-bye to graduating seniors and this school year.
Stop by the Art Gallery to view the 54th Annual Student Juried Exhibition, open April 3 through April 14. The art of graduating seniors will be on display from April 17 through April 30.
Mel Brooks' comedy "The Producers" opens April 3 and continues with shows April 9, 10 and 11 at the Theatre.
The Music Department has quite a lineup in April with percussion ensembles April 14, small ensembles April 15, concert and jazz bands on April 17 and choirs on April 23. The choirs will present much of the music they are planning to perform during their May tour to Italy, Munich and Salzberg.
Also in April, three graduating seniors will present solo recitals in Roshong: pianist Sophia Tucker on April 2, percussionist Kyle Hollerbach on April 12 and pianist Tong Wang on April 19.
The Community Concert Hall has a little something for everyone beginning with Recycled Percussion on April 9. Get ready for high-energy music made with pots, pans, power tools, jumbo aluminum ladders and more. The four-man group delivers a fun-filled, rousing, all-ages show featuring percussion instruments made up of items more likely found at a junkyard than in a band room. Combining heavy metal, punk, pop and hip-hop, Recycled Percussion offers an exciting, interactive and unique music experience.
Next at the Hall is Peter Story performing his comedy "Men are from Mars - Women are from Venus, LIVE!" on April 15. When Mars and Venus collide, the adventures are earth-shatteringly hysterical. Join our favorite Martian and discover how to get a little "piece" on Earth.
Peter has appeared in primetime shows on all three major networks including "CSI," "Without a Trace," "Ugly Betty" and in recurring roles on Jay Leno's "The Tonight Show" and Rob Lowe's "The Lyon's Den."
"Rave On! The Buddy Holly Experience" hits the Concert Hall on April 22. The show reinvents the ordinary tribute show with an electrifying, high-energy, rock 'n' roll extravaganza featuring America's premiere Buddy Holly interpreter, Billy McGuigan, a dead-ringer for the legendary rocker.
An evening of solo piano with Robin Spielberg, one of America's most beloved pianist/composers, comes to Durango on April 29. Robin wins the hearts of listeners with her compelling melodies and sensitive piano technique. Her storytelling of the origins of the music makes the pieces come alive. From the moment she walks on stage until the last note gently caresses the room, Spielberg casts a spell on her audience that is palpable, visceral and spiritual.
