Prior to this week, the Dolores High School golf team had never won a tournament over the course of its three-year history.

All that changed on April 20 however, when the Lady Bears finished at the top of a six-team field at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango.

Kiselya Plewe finished 1st overall in the tournament with a score of 83, Keyana Matteson shot a 116 and Abigail Smith fired a round of 120.

"Since I've been on the team, we haven't gotten a team win," said Smith. "It was really awesome to be a part of that."

The Lady Bears followed up their top finish with a 3rd-place finish in a six-team tournament at Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez on April 21.

Plewe finished 1st in the tournament with a score of 77, Matteson shot a 104, Abigail Smith fired a 110 and Harley Valdez shot a 128.

"I managed to piece together a decent round," said Plewe. "I wasn't striking the ball well and I wasn't putting at the start, but I played better as conditions grew worse."
