Be bear-aware

Bears are becoming active throughout the state, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife urges state residents to make sure they aren't attracting them to their homes. Here are some tips to help out of trouble:

Keep garbage in a secure enclosure, put garbage out the morning of pickup, and keep garbage containers clean.

Take down bird feeders. Birds have plenty of food in summer, and feeders are a source of bear/human conflicts.

Don't leave pet food or stock feed outside, and don't feed any wildlife.

Secure compost piles. Bears are attracted to the scent of rotting food.

Let grills burn off grease, and clean up after picnics.

Close garage doors and lower windows.
