Secondhand Strings performs at Mancos Valley Distillery as part of the distillery's weekend of music. Doors open 5 p.m., and music starts at 8 p.m. There will be a $3 cover. This will be the Strings' second appearance at the Distillery. "Tastes Like Friday" cocktail specials will be served.

The Black Lillies, touring behind their current album "Runaway Freeway Blues," perform at 7 p.m. at the Dolores River Brewery. Tickets: $15. Info: www.doloresriverbrewery.com.

Independence Run, a 5k for Fireworks, at 8 a.m., Mancos Community Center. Race-day registration 6:30-7:30 a.m. Cost: $10 for early registration; $15 on race day. The Pony Expresso and the Dolores Public Library invite the public to a demonstration by Mitchell Silas, a Navajo ceremonial sandpainter. Silas will be at the library on June 28, at 2 p.m. to explain the process of his artwork.

"Superheroes All Around" is the June theme of the Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library, at 202 N. The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society presents James Davenport at 7 p.m. at the Methodist Church, 515 Park St., Cortez, to discuss "'Literal Providers of Food and Drink': The Inka Empire, Feasts, and Ritual Control." Davenport will explore the extent of this ritual control through analysis of ceramics recovered from Pachacamac, a ritual center conquered by the Inka on the Peruvian coast.
