River Talk: Young readers make a heroic effort

Over the past month or so, kids at the Dolores Public Library have been donning their capes to meet and become heroes.

They have learned about superheroes, heroes in books, historical heroes, animal heroes, and heroes in the community. They have gotten to meet local heroes such as K-9 Search and Rescue members Chuck Melvin and Axel, guest speakers Deputy Trish and Deputy David, and more. In the process they have built upon their critical thinking skills, asking important questions such as, "Have you ever ridden your police bike into a parked car?"

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, they learned about the hero within each of them. Young harmonica players, a ballerina, a high jumper, and singers showed off their talent with heroic bravery.

The enthusiastic group of readers has been setting goals for their reading logs, which the library will accept back until July 31st.

Library Fun

Lego enthusiasts have been having fun with Legos at the library every second and fourth Friday of the month at 1 p.m.

In the alternating Fridays in between, there are movies for kids, also at 1 p.m.

The movie of the day is picked after everyone arrives.

The last movie of the summer will be Aug. 14.

The library also offers tech help on Tuesdays for when technology seems to have a mind of its own.

Duck, Duck, Float
